Depth
Dig five layers into this story — from what happened to the full picture.
L1What happened
Candidates were nominated on Oct. 15. The NDC and NNP are contesting all 15 constituencies, and the DPM nine (NOW Grenada). CARICOM's 11-member mission, invited by Grenada's government on Oct. 5, will observe the voting and counting (Caribbean National Weekly).
L2Who’s affected
Grenada's voters. Mitchell said many of his government's initiatives "require more than a single 4-year cycle, particularly in healthcare, education and infrastructure." Pierre: "We are preparing ourselves for governance. What we don't want is to win an election, and then the next day you're trying to figure out what you're going to do."
L3Why it’s quiet
Analysis · OVERLOOKED Elections in small Caribbean states rarely draw U.S. coverage before the results are in.
L4Deeper impact
Key seats (NOW Grenada): Mitchell defends St David, which he won by 1,672 votes in 2022, against first-time NNP candidate Noleen Thompson. Pierre defends St Andrew South East, which she won by 233 votes in 2022 against the NDC's David Andrew. David defends the Town of St George, which he held for the NNP in 2022 by 211 votes, this time under the DPM banner.
L5Full context
Since its founding in 1987, the NDC has won general elections in 1990, 2008 and 2022 but never back to back. In 2022 it won 9 seats and 31,432 votes to the NNP's 6 seats and 28,960 votes (NOW Grenada). David was expelled from the NDC in 2012 and resigned from the NNP in 2025 before founding the DPM. The CARICOM mission is led by Herman St. Helen, chief elections officer of Saint Lucia, with Sase Gunraj of the Guyana Elections Commission as deputy. It will issue a preliminary statement on Nov. 6 and has met NDC chairperson Gloria Thomas, Pierre, David and Police Commissioner Randy Connaught (Caribbean National Weekly).
