Depth
Dig five layers into this story — from what happened to the full picture.
L1What happened
BPBD Bali chief I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana said 23 guests were staying at the resort; 21 were safe and two were missing. The landslide followed rainfall that reached 121 millimetres a day in Pelaga (ANTARA).
L2Who’s affected
Missing: Indonesian national Bangkit Mubarok and a foreign national whose identity was not known. Four of the 25 tents on the four-hectare property were damaged; one was reportedly swept away by debris (ANTARA).
L3Why it’s quiet
Analysis · OVERLOOKED The foreign national's identity and nationality have not been released, which usually limits early international pickup.
L4Deeper impact
127 personnel led by the Bali Search and Rescue Office took part, according to ANTARA. Authorities partly closed an upstream dam's floodgates to cut river flow, sprayed water on earth piles around the tents, searched the river to Batulantang Dam about 500 m away, and deployed a Bali Police K-9 unit. The two had not been found by 5:30 p.m. Monday; the search resumes Tuesday.
L5Full context
The resort, owned by I Kadek Suardika and three partners, sits on steep cliffside terrain beside the Tukad Yeh Kilap River. BPBD says extreme weather since the previous night caused landslides, fallen trees and road subsidence at 64 other locations: 15 in Gianyar, 12 in Karangasem, 11 in Bangli, 10 in Klungkung, six in Badung, and five each in Buleleng and Tabanan. "The situation is generally under control. Pelaga EcoPark is the only site where a search for missing victims remains necessary," Teja said.
