What we keep, and what we don’t

We keep: what you type into this form, any file you attach, any contact method you choose to give, the status we set while checking it, and the replies you and we exchange. The time is stored rounded down to the hour. Your passphrase is stored only as a scrambled one-way hash, so we can’t read it or give it back to you.

We don’t keep: your IP address, your browser or device details, or cookies. Tip text isn’t written to our server logs. These pages have no analytics, no AI assistant, no share buttons and no outside scripts or fonts. To limit how many tips one connection can send, the server counts recent requests in memory using a scrambled key that’s never saved, and those counts are cleared every hour.

Files: for JPEG and PNG images we remove hidden metadata, such as camera details and GPS location, before saving them. PDF and text files are kept exactly as you send them, and they can contain an author name or other details that identify you. Check them first, or copy and paste the text instead.

What we can’t control: our hosting company’s network can record ordinary connection details, such as IP address and time, as any website’s can. Your internet provider, your employer’s network and your device can also show that you visited this site. Nothing online is completely anonymous.

Tips are leads, not facts. We never publish a tip automatically. We check it against other sources first, and we won’t name you.
